Google has just released a new Google Partner’s individual certification. It’s called “Mobile Sites” and is available under the Certifications Menu within the Google Partners Profile.
This exam covers basic and advanced concepts, including best practices for creating, managing, measuring, and optimising mobile websites. It’s currently available in English only. The exam is comprised of 65 questions and requires a minimum score of 80% to get the certification.

Mobile Sites Certification

Unlike the previous Google Partner’s certifications , the new ‘Mobile Sites’ module is focused on website development, optimisation and mobile UX. Previously, Google had only provided exams & certifications related to the different channels available within AdWords (search, display, shopping, video, apps).

The exam study guide for the new ‘Mobile Sites’ module includes 4 topics:

  • Why mobile sites matter
  • Improving mobile site speed
  • Creating an effective mobile UX
  • Advanced web technologies

Google has also added a new link to the “Google Developer Certification” on the same page:

The addition of the new ‘Mobile Sites’ module is consistent with the emphasis Google has been placing on mobile devices & users in recent years. There has been a “Mobile Advertising” module available for some time within the Google Partners certification program, which covers basic and advanced concepts of AdWords mobile advertising (ad formats, campaign measurement and optimisation). The addition of this new certification is a natural step in Google’s mission to educate marketing professionals and clients about the importance of having good mobile usability as well. Historically, marketers  have often found that  UX and performance derived from mobile is worse than that of desktop/tablet versions of websites. However, it is widely understood that mobile is a hugely important channel for consumers – with mobile searches having risen above that of desktop as far back as 2015. As such, Google is trying to help marketers and businesses make more of this opportunity.

This is the first module with in the Google Partners program (outside of Google Analytics) which does not focus on AdWords products specifically. It will be interesting to see if Google continues to expand it’s education in such areas moving forward. At Reprise, we believe it’s a really positive step that will help both agencies and clients to understand and solve some of the challenges related with mobile sites.

Reprise is a certified Google Partner. As such, we have a wide range of experience of delivering success for business across all Google products.
